The Challenge

The Challenge

The Challenge:

  1. Someone in the United States has a stroke every 40 seconds. Every 4 minutes, someone dies of stroke.
  2. Patients who arrive at the emergency room within 3 hours of their first symptoms often have less disability 3 months after a stroke than those who received delayed care.
  3. Tools that help medical team to quickly identify stroke can help save $40,000,000 per 100,000 population.
  4. Stroke is a leading cause of serious long-term disability.
  5. Nearly 1 of 4 stroke survivors have had a previous stroke.

The Need:

  1. There is currently no detector for stroke readily available in the market in mobile app/wearable format for at-risk individuals.
  2. There is also no stroke rehabilitation tool readily available in the market in mobile app/wearable format to promote healthy recovery for survivors and their caregivers.

A Comprehensive Solution:

The IcTus Team has developed a multi-tiered approach to stroke diagnosis, rehabilitation, and prevention of recurrence.

1. innovative mobile application for ER and Neurology Staff to use in hospital or at pre-hospitalization home assessment to better manage and quickly determine the clinical management for at risk patients:

History:

  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Sweating
  • Artralgias/myalgias
  • Weight loss
  • IVDU
  • Recent invasive procedures

Clinical exam:

  • Cardiac murmur
  • Skin involvement (purpuric rash, Janeway’s lesions, Osler nodes)
  • Fever w/wo chills

Lab:

  • Inflammatory marker elevation
  • Renal involvement
  • Blood culture positivity

Neuroimaging:

  • multifocal ischemic lesions in multiple vascular territories; subarachnoid bleeding; bleeding in unusual sites

Echocardiography: vegetations, valve thickening, valve regurgitation

2. icTus offers both patient and caregiver portals in a mobile application to support individuals to manage their psychological and emotional healing and well-being.

These portals curate the development of a regular meditative breathwork practice through a series of digitized tools and apps designed to support.

  • Graphic prompts to guide user through different deep breathing exercises
  • Guided visualizations with audio and pictorial support
  • Relaxation reminder (2, or 4 hour intervals, adjustable)
  • History and record of app use
  • Visual representation of the growth of the practice
